The part almost nobody loves
- and I adore.
From the very beginning I fell for one of the least romantic sides of a destination wedding: international wedding paperwork.
To me it is a bit like maths. At first it looks impossibly complicated, but once you understand the system, every step has its logic. Different nationalities, consulates, embassies, town halls, documents, translations, legalisations, deadlines and procedures. Where many people see bureaucracy, I see a problem to solve - and working my way through Italian public administration and international consular procedures has always been, strangely perhaps, one of the most rewarding parts of my job. It means studying, understanding, finding the right path and walking a couple through something that, without a guide, could feel almost impossible.
It is the part of my work where everything comes together: precision, organisation, international experience and languages.
Over the years this became something to pass on. I started teaching courses on wedding paperwork, procedures and ceremony management, both to the celebrants and planners on my team and to professionals from other teams. After years of studying procedures, solving complex cases and building a method, sharing it felt like a natural way to grow not only Efffetti, but the quality of our whole industry.
I built my own websites too
When I started Efffetti I had no intention of handing over the digital side. I had spent years in technology and marketing - at Adobe I had already learned to work with the web and HTML - so I built the first Efffetti websites myself. And I still do. Technology, SEO, advertising, analytics, user experience and building websites are still a part of my work I love. I enjoy the human side as much as the technical one: I can go from a call with an Australian couple to a consular procedure, from a ceremony to a schema or an Analytics report. For some people these are completely different worlds. For me, they are all part of the same job.
From planner to celebrant, almost by chance
Ceremonies came into my life without any plan. It was 2009, and a couple whose wedding I was organising asked me to lead their ceremony myself. I had never done it. But back then it wasn't easy to find someone in Italy who could lead a professional, personal, well-built symbolic ceremony in English - and I could speak in public, I knew the languages, and I knew the couple and their wedding. So I said yes.
That first ceremony was followed by many more, and it showed me there was a real need. That is how Italian Wedding Celebrants, on MyWeddingInItaly.info, was born: a team of celebrants I select and train to work with international couples, in many languages. Today I speak English and Portuguese fluently, I have added Spanish in recent years - and above all I still love meeting different cultures. Every couple brings its own traditions, families and ways of living a wedding, and every time there is something to learn.
